Jubilee Trail is the best of her books, centered around the three-tiered society of California as it was just before the Gold Rush, where proud Spanish rancheros existed side b Gwen Bristow is not a well-known writer of historical fiction, but she deserves to be: her characters are interesting and flawed, her settings are meticulously researched, and her writing style is as clear as a pane of glass/5.
